Anyway back to my story... My sister-in-law Karabo is living here for a few months from South Africa. She went to the border a few days ago asking them if she was able to enter the US, and the Canadian side said it would be fine because she had a multi entry visa. So I pack up the kids, my friend Becky comes along and we go and pick up Karabo. We wait in the border line for 25 minutes or so, and once we reach the man at the booth, he tells us that karabo is not allowed in the US. They made us pull over and we had to go inside and wait. then they tell us they have to make up all this paper work for her to get back into Canada as well as take her finger prints and sign some documents. it was crazy!!! My poor sister-in-law who already does not have a good opinion of Americans, has now been pushed to her limit and doesn't even want to step foot in America again. I tried really hard to encourage her and tell her, "it's just the border people, who are on a power trip, there are a lot of nice American people" but I am afraid she is convinced of the worst.
Anyway after going through that whole ordeal, we had to go back into Canada and bring Karabo home. Seeing as it was my only day to go shopping my friend Becky and I ended up going back to the US and finished our shopping. I felt so bad about the whole situation, and I hope I can try and encourage her not to be to discouraged, but they treated her pretty poorly, talking to her like she didn't understand what they were saying, even though she's probably smarter than they are! She speaks at least 7 languages fluently, with no problems! Crazy!! What was supposed to be a few hours ended up being a full day event! My kids were so good, and I am so proud of them for being such troopers!!
Karabo and I waiting talking with the border guys right before he said "no taking pictures!!"

Oh my goodness, your poor sister-in-law. . . . poor you. That is so unfortunate that you just happened to be in the wrong line up.
I love the picture of you and the girls in bellis fair. It looks like you did have a really good time once you got there.
oh man! what an ordeal!!!
Crazy! It's funny sometimes they surprise you wither way at the border, you just never know!! Well at least you made it down anyways, but your poor s-i-l!
How frustating!!! At least you were able to go shopping in the end.
Oh my word, that is nuts! Those border people are so hard to deal with...trust me I have been searched with dogs before it is so invasive.
Hi Sarah, I just wanted to say hi. I don't know if you remember me but I went to VCS and CTC (both a year ahead of you I think) Your kids are adorable. Sorry to hear about your terrible ordeal. I hope that didn't change your SIL's mind about going back.
yeah, we've been through a few crazy border ordeals ourselves. back before we were married, josh was just coming up for a visit and the canadians made him pay $250 because he didn't have certain paperwork with him (long story) visas and all that stuff is such a pain in the butt for me, living here in the usa. if i'm in the middle of renewing my green card, i can get into canada, but wouldn't be able to come back home! crazy, eh?
